Hello Area E Residents.
For Outdoor Enthusiasts especially rural Nelson residents: There has been a slide 12 kilometers south of Nelson on Highway 6 just past Whitewater so the Great Northern Trail is closed. See attached.
From our friends in the Cariboo Regional District:
There is a movement in government to phase out the C License for Meat Processing, meaning it would become ever more difficult to buy local meat.
For the past four months the South Cariboo Regional Cattlemen’s Association and other stakeholders, have been lobbying the provincial government to introduce a new level of meat inspection which would allow for farm gate sales and own use. Under this proposal, animals arriving for slaughter would be inspected by a local vet, contracted by the government to carry out before and after slaughter inspection. (Proposal available from Area E Director on request.)
The government is in the process of designing a new meat inspection system because the Canadian Food Inspection Agency will no longer be carrying out inspections after 2013. This is a really good opportunity for residents of rural BC to speak out and let legislators know what rural communities want. We need to let them know that we want access to affordable and locally produced food.
Submissions to the Ministry of Health must be received by April 30th to the following address: Meat.Inspection@gov.bc.ca
The RDCK Fire Service Report is attached. Thanks to all firefighters in Area E and neighbouring communities, and thanks to Chief Swan for the great report.

Hello Area E Residents.
A flyer should arrive in the mail regarding Open Houses for the Draft Community Plan.
Please circulate widely and post the attached poster in your community. Review the newsletter from 2010 attached. It contains important questions and answers about an Official Community Plan, however APC members have changed since that time so please avoid contacting them regarding the meetings.
The following dates and locations have been confirmed for the Draft Area E Official Community Plan Open Houses. This is a drop in format and the community can attend any time between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Please note the RDCK Staff have taken information for maps and property classifications from provincial government sources and we understand property designations, etc. may not be up to date. If you can not attend any of the meetings to correct, you can submit information to the RDCK Planning department.
For more information on how a Community Plan affects a community you can ask businesses and friends in Area A, East Shore, Area H, North Slocan Valley and Area D Rural Kaslo (except Meadow Creek, Howser). All these areas have a relatively new Official Community Plan and no zoning. Area F, from Kokanee Park to Bonnington, has had a community plan and zoning for many years. Get informed!
Please click here for more information, the draft plan and plan maps.

Hello Area E Residents.
Please circulate widely and post the attached poster in your community.
This link gives confirmed dates and locations for the Draft Area E Official Community Plan Open Houses.
These Open Houses will be in a drop in format and the community members can attend any time between 6 pm and 8 pm.
The reason for the open house is for the public to review the draft planning documents, make comments, add and correct information and have input. Please express interest in or concern about the Official Community Plan in writing.
A community plan expresses the values, current land uses, and preferences of a community so that government and decision makers know about the community’s characteristics and how it wants to grow into the future.
A community plan is not zoning and can not on its own regulate land use. A community plan can exist on its own and zoning is not required as part of a community plan.
A community plan must be in place before a community can request zoning. Zoning can regulate density, building characteristics, land use etc. Communities that are interested in zoning would have to request zoning by petition after a community plan is in place.
See this link for more information, draft plan and plan maps.
